Loose Change

Tonight I found loose change in the pocket of my little boy’s shorts. I was putting laundry on to wash, and when I lifted up his tiny denim shorts, I found that they jingled. Oh, the pain this discovery brought to my heart, but a smile to my face, too. He’s growing up. He’s big enough to stuff change and who knows what else into his own little pocket.

I remember when I had this same feeling about my first daughter. After a busy day playing outside, a bath, some reading and cuddling time I tucked her in bed. When I returned to the living room later, I found her tiny white Keds askew on the floor. She had taken off her own shoes and left them in the floor. At the time it touched my heart much as the change in the pockets did tonight. Now, I’m not so touched when I find her flip flops left where she walked out of them.

They continue to reach those milestones that let me know they are changing, growing up. Sometimes there’s a slight sadness that they no longer need me for one thing, but I know they still need me for other things.

For example, I know now I’m needed to check the little boy’s pockets when I do the wash.

They grow up too fast, if only time could stand still, but yet the new adventures we are going to experience with our children are going to be great as well.

God Bless,
Amber

Lovely new blog.

Just one suggestion: The light-colored type is extremely difficult to read for those of us with visual challenges/issues. You might want to employ darker text in order to accommodate those with disabilities. I can enlarge the size, but the color is still problematic.

Good luck with the new venture!

The darker green still matches your theme. Looks great. It is much easier to read everything.

Thanks for being so receptive . . .

(I had a detached retina caused by stress. My left eye only has peripheral vision left, my right has been lasered in all 4 quadrants to prevent full detachment, is full of floaters that dance in front of my field of vision, plus I'm developing a cataract. So I have a 22 inch monitor & enlarge everything so as not to strain my right eye and risk full detachment.)

Ohhh, the sadness and joy of them growing. My oldest is almost 3, and I can hardly bear how quickly he's growing. One of my friends is working on a way to try and stop time...I'm waiting to see if she gets it figured out! :):)

Thanks for sharing this!

Those tiny milestones really grab a mother's heart, don't they.

Thank you for stopping by my blog yesterday.

They grow up way too fast! I am thankful for every moment that I have with them.

So true! We want them to grow up and get to the next phase but then we want them to stay little too! Great post!

Terrfic post! Can I just say that I hate checking pockets when I'm doing the laundry? Hubby works at a quarry and I just don't enjoy pulling the small pieces of stone and dust out that wind up in his pockets! :)

I too find change in the laundry.
What is worse is finding tissues.

So true, my oldest is headed to Kindergarten this year, and I can't imagine the day without him or without him needing me!
